Have you ever wondered why a warm up is done before a workout?
Warming up helps prepare your body for aerobic activity. A warm up kick starts your cardiovascular system by raising your body temperature and increasing blood flow to your muscles. Most warm ups don’t take very long, just two to three minutes. To benefit us the most a warm up should work the same muscles we will be engaging during the main workout.
Some of the many benefits of warming up include:
- Increased flexibility allowing you to move easier and correctly
- Lower risk of injury
- Increased blood flow and oxygen
- Improved performance
- Better range of motion
- Less muscle tension and pain
Next time you’re tempted to “skip” the warm up remember it is a crucial part of a work out.
